Ms Colombia Walk
The first annual Ms Colombia Walk was held Saturday, August 24 at Riis Beach. A fixture of the New York LGBTQ community, Ms Colombia was found dead in the beach’s water a year earlier. The walk was founded to honor her unique and colorful spirit that brightened New York. Ms Colombia regularly marched in parades with her colorful beard, bright dresses, floral headpieces and a parrot, even when facing arrest at events like the Irish Parade. A small group gathered for the Ms Colombia walk, showing off bright, feminine costumes, colored-beards and expressing their own homages to the late Ms Colombia, a pioneer in New York’s LGBTQ community, who died at the beach in 2018. The parade made a lap around the small beach community, chanted “MS COLOMBIA!!” while embracing one another with hugs and two-cheek kisses.
